Rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. The waters rose and lifted the ark high above the ground, and it floated on the surface of the water. After forty days the rain ceased, but the waters still covered the earth. God remembered Noah and all the living creatures in the ark, and He sent a wind over the earth so that the waters began to recede. On the seventeenth day of the seventh month—150 days after the flood began—the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to diminish, and on the first day of the tenth month, the tops of the mountains became visible. In the six hundred and first year of Noah’s life, on the first day of the first month, the waters had dried from the earth’s surface. By the twenty-seventh day of the second month, the earth was completely dry. God then commanded Noah to bring his family and all the animals out of the ark.
