The Church of God in Phnom, Cambodia, was established in September 2004 in the capital city of Cambodia. Its official name is the World Mission Society Church of God, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is located in the southwestern region of the Indochina Peninsula. The city is a cultural and economic hub where the ancient heritage of the Khmer Empire blends harmoniously with modern 21st-century life. Strategically positioned at the confluence of the Mekong, Tonlé Sap, and Bassac Rivers, Phnom Penh plays a central role in the nation’s trade and development.[1]

As the first Church of God in Cambodia, the Phnom Penh Church has actively contributed to the spread of the new covenant gospel, helping establish additional branch churches in cities such as Kratié and Siem Reap. Despite Buddhism being the predominant religion in the country, the members of the church hold firm conviction in the truth and faithfully follow God Elohim. Some members have deepened their biblical understanding by visiting Korea through the church’s overseas visiting group program. To support their faith, the Head Office has translated key materials—including the Truth Books, sermon books, and Media Cast content—into Khmer, the official language of Cambodia.
The Church also engages in diverse volunteer initiatives to share the love of God with the local community. In April 2011, when the 10th ASEAN Taekwondo Championship was held at Cambodia’s National Olympic Stadium, church members supported the event with enthusiastic cheering. Haem Somnang, President of the Cambodia Taekwondo Federation, commended their efforts, stating that their presence “amazed many and energized the entire stadium.”[2]

In 2012, the Church donated nine water pumps to four villages in the Traeuy Sla area of S'ang District, Kandal Province, to help alleviate the community’s limited access to clean water. During the donation ceremony, Minister of Cults and Religion Min Khin expressed gratitude and presented a Certificate of Appreciation.[3] The church has also extended aid to flood victims in Kampong Cham and, together with the Church of God in Siem Reap, provided financial support for vulnerable populations in the region. It continues to carry out blood drives and other charitable activities to support those in need.

In response to the reopening of schools following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Church donated 5,000 face masks and 1,100 bottles of hand sanitizer to help ensure the health and safety of students and educators. Minister of Cults and Religion Chhit Sokhon expressed appreciation, noting that the contribution was “a much-needed initiative during a challenging time for the education sector.”[4] Additionally, church members have helped improve educational environments through activities such as donating clothing and school supplies, offering Korean language classes, and painting murals at elementary schools and childcare centers.[5]
Environmental cleanup campaigns are one of the Church of God’s core mission activities. In January 2017, ASEZ university student volunteers from the Church of God in Phnom Penh conducted a cleanup campaign at the University of Cambodia. In early 2020, they collected 420 kilograms of waste around the Battambang Provincial Hall. ASEZ WAO, the Church of God’s Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, has also carried out ongoing environmental initiatives in areas including Khan Chamkar Mon. Bou Chumserey, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, praised their efforts, stating, “Your activities are greatly helping to address issues facing Cambodia. I fully support ASEZ WAO in its mission to build a better world from A to Z.”[6]

In recognition of its service-oriented contributions based on biblical teachings, the Church of God in Phnom Penh has received numerous commendations, including Certificates and Plaques of Appreciation from the Minister of Cults and Religion,[7][8] the Minister of Health,[9] the Director of the National Blood Transfusion Center,[10][11] the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia,[12] and the President of the Cambodia Taekwondo Federation.[13]
