Features
California is home to some of the world’s leading universities, including the University of California and Stanford University, which have produced many talented individuals. It is also the location of Silicon Valley—the hub of innovation where major global companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple are based—making California a driving force in advanced technology and the IT industry. Economically, California ranks first among all U.S. states[1] and stands among the top ten economies in the world.[2]
The World Mission Society Church of God in San Francisco, CA, U.S., is located in Alameda County, just east of San Francisco. This area is part of the Bay Area, a large metropolitan region made up of nine counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay. Since its establishment, church members have actively preached the gospel throughout the region and have established more than ten branch churches.[3]
Firmly rooted in the teachings of the Bible, Church members strive to lead exemplary Christian lives that reflect the image of God Elohim. They also work closely with local governments to care for those in need and continue to serve their neighbors through various volunteer activities, fulfilling their role as the salt and light of the community.
Environmental Protection
The members of the Church of God in San Francisco actively listen to the needs of their local communities and carry out environmental protection activities tailored to the region. The San Francisco area frequently faces large wildfires during dry and hot seasons.[4][5] In response to requests from the City of Oakland, where fire damage has often occurred, Church members conducted fire prevention activities at North Oakland Sports Field in January 2017 and November 2019.[6] They removed flammable debris, trash, and fallen leaves that could serve as fuel for potential fires. At Kaiser Elementary School, members also collected 800 kilograms of fallen leaves.
In May 2019, ASEZ WAO, the Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, helped reduce fire hazards by clearing dry brush and weeds near the Oakland Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibition Hall.
Church members also strive to improve the local environment by cleaning public areas such as Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline[7] and other community spaces, contributing to a cleaner and brighter neighborhood. In January 2020, ASEZ WAO organized a cleanup on International Boulevard, Oakland, as part of the “No More GPGP” project, collecting 550 kilograms of trash. In January 2019, ASEZ, the University Student Volunteer Group, partnered with the City of Hayward and removed approximately 300 kilograms of litter from Tennyson Street.
Practicing Love for Neighbors
The members of the Church of God actively put their love for neighbors into practice, particularly through continuous blood drives that help sustain the local blood supply. In July 2017, they held a blood drive at Hayward City Hall, where 40 people donated blood. At another event in December 2012, hosted at the Blood Centers of the Pacific, they organized engaging activities such as face painting to encourage public participation. Wendy Tesson, a representative from the Blood Centers of the Pacific, commented, “I’ve never seen a blood drive so well-organized in every aspect. I was deeply impressed by how they encouraged participants and made the event enjoyable through various activities.”[8]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, members extended heartfelt support to frontline workers at hospitals and public offices. In January 2021, San Francisco ASEZ WAO members, together with nearby Church of God members, carried out the “Heart to Heart” project, delivering 900 snack kits—including coffee and vitamins—to medical staff at nine hospitals, such as Sutter Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, and San Francisco General Hospital. In September 2020, they delivered 120 snack kits and thank-you letters to the Hayward Fire Department to express appreciation for their dedication. Earlier, in August 2020, they presented medical workers at Washington Hospital with Hero Badges, face masks, and snack kits, recognizing them as “Heroes of the Community.”
Awards
The Church of God in San Francisco received the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Donald Trump in recognition of their dedicated service to the local community and their neighbors.[9] The President’s Volunteer Service Award is presented to individuals or organizations that have made a positive impact on society through volunteer activities.[10] The Gold Award, the highest honor, is granted to groups that contribute more than 1,000 hours of community service.[11][12]
In a letter accompanying the award, President Trump expressed his appreciation, stating:
“Thank you for your continued dedication to serving your community and our country. I believe you will continue your efforts for the happiness of others and to build a stronger future for Americans.”[9]
In addition, the Church of God in San Francisco was recognized by the City of Hayward in 2018, receiving the Environmental Sustainability Award for their outstanding contributions to protecting and improving the local environment.
