Features
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is a constitutional monarchy located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. Throughout its long history, it was governed successively by the Roman Empire, the Visigoths, and the Moors, until it emerged as a unified nation in the 15th century. From that point forward, Spain positioned itself as a staunch defender of Catholicism and rose as a global power through its famed “Invincible Armada.” The nation established colonies across Latin America and, even after their independence, continued to exert profound influence—particularly in religion, language, and culture. Spanish, the official language, is spoken by approximately 600 million people worldwide, making it one of the most widely spoken languages alongside English, Chinese, and Hindi.[1]
Spain also ranks fifth in the world for the number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.[2] Madrid, the capital, is rich in cultural institutions and historic landmarks, including the Royal Palace of Madrid (the official residence of the monarch), the Prado Museum (home to the royal art collection), Plaza Mayor (one of Europe’s largest public squares), and the historic San Miguel Market.
Members of the Church of God in Madrid actively work to preserve cultural heritage and contribute to community well-being through ongoing environmental cleanups in neighborhoods such as Arganzuela and Chamberí.
They also organize regular blood drives in collaboration with the Madrid City Council and regional blood banks. These initiatives—motivated by the love and sacrifice of Christ, who established the New Covenant Passover through His blood—aim to share life and hope with others. Although blood drives are typically held in the spring, during the Passover season, the church also conducts them during the summer holiday period when blood donations often decline and accident rates increase, helping to relieve blood shortages. In recognition of these compassionate efforts, the Spanish Red Cross Blood Center awarded the Church a Certificate of Appreciation.[3]
Members of the Church of God in Madrid continue to follow the example of Christ by sharing the blessings of salvation with their families, neighbors, and communities. Paul Gutiérrez, a member who visited Korea as part of the 52nd Overseas Visiting Group, expressed his commitment: “No king lives a life of unconditional sacrifice for his people. Yet God the Father and God the Mother, the King of kings, have done so. In Romans 15, Apostle Paul expressed his desire to preach the gospel in Spain but was unable to do so.[4] Now that the new covenant has been delivered to Spain, I will carry out the mission entrusted to me with sincerity and zeal.”[5]
