Features
Costa Rica, situated in Central America between Nicaragua and Panama, is renowned for its rainforests and remarkable biodiversity. About 25 percent of its territory is designated as protected areas and national parks,[1] making it one of the world’s leading eco-friendly countries. True to the meaning of its name, “Rich Coast,” Costa Rica’s shores are unspoiled and teeming with life, and its coastal national parks serve as major nesting grounds for sea turtles.[2] The capital, San José, lies at an elevation of 1,180 meters on a fertile tropical plateau. The city is characterized by its tree-lined streets and plazas, with the Irazú Volcano rising to the east and enhancing its scenic beauty.
Members of the Church of God in San José spread the message of God the Mother, the source of life, and serve the community with a mother’s heart, filling society with warmth and care. They have carried out environmental campaigns, including cleanup efforts in Alajuela Central Park, where they cleared streets and drainage systems. In preparation for the New Covenant Passover, established by Jesus through His precious blood, they also conduct blood drives, commemorating Christ’s love.
The relationship between Costa Rica and the Church of God dates back nearly a decade before the church was established in San José. In 2003, during the Daegu Summer Universiade in Korea, Costa Rican athletes received enthusiastic support from the Church of God members, who cheered passionately and encouraged them to perform at their best. On that occasion, the church provided comprehensive support[3]—from arrival to departure—so that delegations from all nations, including Costa Rica, could fully enjoy the event. Later, during the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, the church again welcomed the Costa Rican team as family, ensuring they experienced abundant Korean hospitality and warmth throughout their stay.
