Features
Medellín, located in the highlands of the Andes Mountains, is known for its harmonious combination of nature-friendly parks and modern urban infrastructure, offering a picturesque environment. With a population of approximately 2.62 million, it is Colombia’s second-largest city after Bogotá.[1] Historically rich in gold deposits, Medellín prospered as a major coffee distribution center in the late 19th century. Today, it is an important industrial hub, home to thriving sectors such as steel, automotive, plastics, and textiles.
The gospel of the new covenant was introduced to Colombia in the mid-2000s through missionary work conducted by evangelists from countries including South Korea and Peru. As the truth of the Bible spread, local members deepened their faith and participated in overseas visiting group programs to Korea.[2]
The Church of God in Medellín actively practices the teachings of Mother through various community service activities. Members have organized blood drives in locations such as Los Deseos Park and San Vicente de Paúl Hospital, donating precious blood and encouraging widespread community participation. The church also conducts regular environmental cleanup campaigns to protect natural surroundings and raise environmental awareness among citizens. These efforts include waste collection and site maintenance at areas such as the La Huesa, Altavista, Montebonito, and Palos Verdes Streams.[3][4]
In recognition of its service to the community, the Medellín City Government has awarded the Church of God several Certificates of Appreciation.[5][6] In 2017, the church carried out a large-scale environmental cleanup in the Loma de los Zuleta, a locality in the municipality of Itagüí, part of the Medellín metropolitan area. In acknowledgment of this contribution, the mayor of Itagüí issued an official proclamation commending the church for its dedication to the public good.
